CAMILLE BERNARD
Bio

Camille Bernard’s work offers an ambivalent vision of humanity, in which creatures exist in a sustainable yet fragile balance, subject to the vagaries of nature. These worlds are characterised by a vocabulary of forms which, through repetition, have come to define the artist’s oeuvre. Rocks, grasses, streams, stems, flowers and humans, who inhabit these natural elements, recur throughout the canvases. They are gentle or voracious, asleep or excited, naked or hairy, and exist alone or in groups. Seemingly solid and heavy, they re-enact their mythological allure as metaphors. Through these representations, the artist reveals new forms of earthly sustenance, more inclusive and less gendered.
Born in 1994 in Paris, Camille (who lives and works in Uzerche) is a French-Scottish artist. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2017. She was awarded the Fleming-Wyfold Bursary in 2017.
