For the second year, sissi club is taking part in ARCO Madrid, in the Opening section, by invitation of Cristina Anglada and Anissa Touati. On this occasion, the gallery presents a two-person exhibition featuring Camille Bernard (1994, FR/UK) and Omar Castillo Alfaro (1991, MX).

This presentation brings into dialogue Camille Bernard’s oil paintings on wood and Omar Castillo Alfaro’s Amantecas, respectively inspired by wicker weaving in Bernard’s case and by the featherwork traditions of Indigenous Mexican cultures in Alfaro’s. Bernard’s paintings, with their warm tones and fluid forms, depict ever-shifting inner landscapes, evoking a poetic introspection.

Alongside them, Alfaro’s Amantecas explore the vibrant textures of natural bird feathers, echoing an ancestral technique from Mesoamerican cultures and its transformation through the experience of Spanish colonization. The works of both artists also foreground organic and mineral textures that seem to evolve or mutate over time. Their dialogue reflects on the mineral properties of landscapes and on the sculpting of stone by nature or by human hands: Bernard’s marine rock thus meets Omar Castillo Alfaro’s alabaster bird-beak sculptures.
