JOSHUA MERCHAN RODRIGUEZ

Bio

Through his work, Joshua Merchan Rodriguez explores what he calls «knots»: points of convergence where historical, political, and poetic dimensions intertwine, and where transformations, displacements, and manipulations of matter take place. These knots can take the form of concrete processes such as the commodification of the coca leaf in the eighteenth century, the domestication of corn, or the exploitation of horseshoe crabs by the pharmaceutical industry. By pulling on the threads that make up these knots, he tries to render visible the complexities and tensions running through our human and inter-species relationships.

Born in 1996 in Bogotá, Joshua Merchan Rodriguez is a French-Colombian artist. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2024.

His work has been exhibited at 100% l’exposition, La Villette, Paris (2026); Salon ACME, Mexico City (2024, 2025); CRAC Alsace, Altkirch (2025); sissi club, Marseille (2025); Ojalá, Paris (2025); Guadalajara90210, Mexico City (2023, 2025); Galerie du Crous, Paris (2024); Air de Paris, Romainville (2024); Julio artist-run space, Paris (2024).
