MARION ELLENA
El color del polvo
Exhibition text

Marion Ellena’s practice is rooted in an archival logic: photographs from her teenage years, from her smartphone, pictures taken by her mother. Working with this material, she approaches memory through the experience of exile, questioning her recollections through their emotional charge. Her
approach is tied to darkroom work and undermines the reproducibility of her medium. She combines
collage, filters and photograms, uses expired papers and chemistry, and disrupts the sharpness of the
image to blur landmarks and keep memory at a distance.

During a trip to Peru in 2025, she began a new project, El color del polvo [The color of dust], devoted
to memory, silence and forms of transmission, in the form of an installation of chromogenic prints.

Born in 1992 in Venezuela, Marion Ellena (lives and works in Marseille) is a French-Peruvian artist. She graduated from La Cambre (Brussels, BE) in 2015 and from the École nationale supérieure des
arts décoratifs (Paris, FR) in 2017.

Her solo and group exhibitions have taken place at: sissi club, Marseille (2026, 2019); Art-o-rama, Marseille (2025); Espace Jörg Brockman, Geneva (2025); Galerie SitDown, Paris (2025); Centre
Bellegarde, Toulouse (2023); Jeu de Paume Lab, Paris (2021).

She is the winner of the Polyptique Prize (2024) and of the Résidence 1+2 (2023). Her works are
in the collections of the Frac Sud and the Artothèque de Lyon.
