For Art-O-Rama 2024, sissi club is presenting a solo exhibition by the artist Samir Laghouati-Rashwan, who lives and works in Marseille. The exhibition combines theoretical explorations with artistic experiments centred on quinine and resin, presenting a collection of new sculptural works. This new series of resin sculptures, entitled ‘Only good vibes’, explores the concept of slowness and the imagery of lowriding and lean—or purple drank—evoked by the choice of a monochromatic mauve palette for the works. By working with the properties of resin—its opacity and transparency—Laghouati-Raswhan influences the perception of iconographies and the social and political histories contained within images that have been cut out, assembled and juxtaposed. Ironically, it is as a subtext that the archival and documentary work contained within these icons is revealed, in a pendulum swing between
confrontation and avoidance. Seemingly fun, colourful and approachable, this exhibition invites visitors to explore and digress upon the reflections at the heart of Laghouati-Rashwan’s work.
