ROZY SAPELKINE
Room of purification and intense feeling of extasy
Exhibition text

Rozy Sapelkine “builds houses and pimps humans.” By intertwining aesthetics and composition, Rozy’s work uses the term “makeup” to connect cosmetics and construction. They create avatars adorned with jewelry, wigs, corsets, prosthetics, and gloves. Driven by a desire to augment the body and expand the self on stage, they send their humans on adventures into the rosy interiors of papier-mâché houses.

These soft sculptures—armor-like garments and soft houses—come in kit form, can be transported here and there, ready to enchant everyone’s daily life. Made from salvaged materials, like 3D collages, they invite us to rethink waste and embody both the precariousness of a damaged world and the solidarity that arises from it. They are works dedicated to friendship, sharing, and celebration, which awaken the senses; spaces for being together, where we empower ourselves collectively by transforming our appearance.
